Flux Laboratory will donate all proceeds to the Cercle d'Etudes Grecques.

Flux Laboratory presents Countless, a dance performance created by Greek artist-choreographer Markella Manoliadi, as part of the Flux School next program initiated by Flux Laboratory Athens.

Countless takes as its starting point a question by Greek choreographer Markella Manoliadi, in relation to her tangible memory and experience as a dancer: "how many versions of myself have I danced so far"?

This question was posed not only as an inventory, a way of nostalgically reviewing all that constitutes her artistic identity today, but also as a kind of reflection on the function of the body-archive, a body that activates memories and revives experiences in relation to the questions posed during the pedagogical and artistic process.

Markella Manoliadi brought this reflection to the heart of the educational program "Flux School Next" initiated by Flux Laboratory Athens, inviting the 15 participating dancers to question the way embodied knowledge is structured, to the details appearing in the search for interpretive qualities in the movement, to the variability of the experience, while the individual distinguishes themselves from the group in order to recast themselves.

Markella Manoliadi has created a choreography with an open structure, wanting to propose a scenic condition that welcomes and supports the pedagogical part, without denying the fragility of every young dancer who takes her first steps on stage.

This project is a welcome gesture, a collective wish to consecrate the countless stage experiences of the students who are opening up to the art of dance.

History

Flux School is a program initiated by Flux Laboratory in 2014 in Geneva. The first version of the project proposed to young people in a situation of social or educational disadvantage to benefit from training with professionals from the world of performance.

Subsequently, in Athens, the Flux School distinguished itself for its social character by working with refugee and migrant camps in the region and by giving classical dance lessons to young children.

Since 2019, Flux Laboratory Athens continues its action by supporting the emerging scene and develops Flux School Next in partnership with the Metaneira Dance School created by Markella Manoliadi. The project with a social dimension becomes educational. With the idea of offering a post-graduate programme to young dancers who have graduated from dance schools in Athens, Markella Manoliadi (Contemporary Dance) and Dimitri Kaminaris (Classical Dance) supervise the students who pursue the development of their projects and are offered three intensive dance lessons.
